Yes, we will once again be delving into the issue of prison inmates with contraband and continuing our cooperation with SCDC in 2014. We have to take a moment to commend SCDC for the increased inmate information they have made available to the public on the inmate search site. Kudos for taking a step in the right direction. Not to nit pick, but.....  :)  .........we would sure like to see a search functionality similar to that used by the Georgia Department of Corrections.

On to the profile.

Last Friday a reader notified of us Lieber Correctional inmate John Decarlo posting to his Thugbook page. His page can be found under the name "Jack Stacks". Decarlo is locked up until at least 2024 on convictions for 1st Degree Burglary, Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon During a Crime of Violence. He committed his offenses in Beaufort County. It seems Decarlo and two of his friends decided to perpetrate a home invasion on another "friend" they no longer liked. During the home invasion the victim was pistol whipped rather severely. When patrol officers stopped the getaway vehicle the suspects still has copious amounts of the victim's blood on their clothing.

Decarlo has been in SCDC custody since May of 2013. As you can see, he has already been in quite a bit of trouble and has already been punished for possessing a cell phone. We would like to see SCDC take stronger action. If the inmate has been caught with contraband and punished administratively, subsequent violations should result in a contraband charge prosecuted in the court system. Administrative punishment means very little to someone serving a long stint in prison.

This screen cap of Decarlo's Thugbook page was taken Friday. As you can see his complaining about being locked down, but gloating over the reported beating of a corrections officer.

SCDC was notified and is taking action on this information.

Thanks to the increased information provided by SCDC we have decided to add a new feature to our inmate profiles. We always hear thug supporters and inmates whining about the lack of "rehabilitation" in our prison system. The SC prison system does offer educational opportunities and they keep track of inmate participation. From now on, when we profile an inmate we will take note of whether or not that inmate has taken any steps to take advantage of these programs and improve his lot in life. We spot checked a few we have already profiled. Let's just say, we aren't impressed.
