The latest news indicates that city commissioner James Brooks, who was arrested for injecting himself into the case and interfering with police, is a distant relative of the shooter, Demarquise Elkins. This case is starting to read like some sordid made for t.v. drama.
Apparently the Black Panthers have decided to attach themselves to the case and held a protest somewhere to support Demarquise Elkins and his family. Curiously, we can find no reports of such a protest in the media. We find comments about the demonstration all over social media, though. Why is the "news" media not reporting on it? The only references we can find in the "news" media are reports of some spokesman of the group whining about the age of the two murderers and another complaining about the fact that Sabrina Elkins, the sister who dumped the murder weapon in a pond, hasn't been released on bond.
There is also plenty of information out there indicating Elkins was targeting victims based on race. Of course, the police are denying this even while reporting that such information was obtained from a co-defendant. The victim of his previous robbery and shooting was a "White-Hispanic" as was the 13 month old child Elkins shot in the face.
As much as we support our law enforcement officers it is aggravating when they play politically correct games at the direction of their political administrations. Of course, there are plenty of police department administrators who are loathe to call a race based crime what it actually is. Unless, of course, the "victim" of such a crime is a member of the black protected class.
Hispanics are also a protected class in this country to some extent. That protection applies in cases where they are "victimized" by a white person, but comes to a screeching halt when the perpetrator is black. Or, as in the case of George Zimmerman, when a black is the "victim" of a White-Hispanic.
