As we sat around the fire sipping our coffee spiked with Bailey's and waiting for the game to start we discussed the news of the day. In case you have been too busy or hungover to read the blog, we reported North Charleston's first two shootings, and first homicide, at about 7 a.m. The incidents occurred at 2315 Aintree Avenue and 3993 Niagara Street. It has been reported that in each incident someone knocked at the door and a female answered. Multiple shots were fired at each scene and each of those females was gunned down. According to what we have dug up on the net, the female on Aintree is said to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The scene on Niagara Street is now said to be a homicide scene.
Indeed. Was it really that serious?
The "Hardworking Smokes" referred to above is a fellow formerly known as "Kingsmokes da First", real name Thelmont Montero Karshaid Royal, whom we profiled in April of 2012. It would appear he is related to the deceased woman, possibly a son. He has some prior offenses for resisting arrest, PWID and other drug charges, and firearms charges. He was arrested for two handgun related charges in 2011 by CPD. The 9th Circuit Solicitor dismissed his firearm charges in November of 2013, claiming they couldn't prove Royal actually possessed the firearm. He was sentenced on that same day in November of 2013 on drug charges to 6 months, suspended in favor of 12 months probation. Royal was arrested by CPD on those drug charges in May of 2013. Six months from arrest to final disposition, dismissal of old gun charges, and a sweet sentence from Judge Deadra Jefferson on a plea agreement has to make you wonder whether or not the murder of his female relative was related to any activity he might have engaged in to get that sweet deal. That remains to be seen.
Now, we are accustomed to covering thug on thug violence and have been doing so since March of 2012. Our experience has taught us to look at seemingly unrelated events. By doing so, we can draw some pretty accurate conclusions. Kind of like our conclusion that the 9th Circuit Solicitor isn't doing her job very well. Or that Judge Thomas "Felon's Friend" Hughston has a soft spot for criminals and only wants to make them feel good by releasing them to prey upon the citizens of the Lowcountry.
What strikes us about these two incidents, aside from the connections we made above, is they occurred within an hour or two of one another. The other interesting thing we noticed is that it would appear females were the intended targets. Even in the thug community the targeting of women is not something often engaged in. While ruminating on this a member of the team reminded us of the incident on Grayson Street on 16 December. That victim was also female and was shot in the head and, according to our sources, has been declared brain dead. That shooting was followed up less than 24 hours later (and one block away) with the shooting of Robert Laval Green. He was also shot in the head. As far as we can tell there have been no arrests made in either of those shootings.
Based on the facts presented, and the relative rarity of thugs specifically targeting women, we can make some inferences and come to a fairly reasonable conclusion. What is that conclusion? Well, we believe these last two shootings are related to one another and are very likely related to, and probably retribution for, the shooting of the female on Grayson Street.
Time (and arrest and trial) will tell if our conclusions are correct.
