The Sleeping Giant Awakens

Let us start by revealing we are not a particularly zealous crew when it comes to religion. Some of us will attend a function once in a while while others eschew organized religion completely. In general we are fairly ambivalent about the whole thing. If believing in a supreme being helps you get through life, more power to you.

We have some very religious family and friends. Most of us also have gay family members and friends. Hell, who doesn't? Believe it or not, some of those gay family members and friends are also religious. Some would call the whole group confused. We just call them friends and family.

We have been watching the storm created by the comments of Phil Robertson with varying levels of amusement and disdain. Quite a combination, huh?

Why are we amused by this drummed up controversy? Well, it seems the serial whiners on the left made a HUGE miscalculation when they decided they finally had the ammo to rid the airwaves of the overtly religious Robertson clan, while delivering a crippling blow to their Christian nemesis in general, and gleefully attempted to sacrifice them all upon the altar of diversity and tolerance on the basis of Phil Robertson's recent comments about gays. All they succeeded in accomplishing was providing their "enemy" a rallying point.

Has their been a war on Christianity in this country? As a group of mostly non-religious folks we have to say yes, there has been. It has been doing on for decades. Christians, for the most part, just seem to carry on with their lives and don't outwardly react. The reaction to Robertson's beliefs by gays, A&E and even Cracker Barrel has only served to stir that potential hornets nest into activity. Just ask Cracker Barrel, who removed all DD merchandise from their shelves to placate the gay lobby, then caved to the Christians within twenty-four hours and put the stuff back out after disseminating a rather contrite public letter of apology.

The usual gay support groups jumped into the fray immediately, just as they do anytime anyone uses a word to describe homosexuals that those same homosexuals used to describe themselves in the past, prior to attaching the current stigma to the word "gay". Then the National Association Advocating for Criminal People jumped on the bandwagon when they saw what they thought was a good opportunity to bring in some donations by taking a stand of faux righteous racial indignation. What was the NAACP upset about? Well, it seems Robertson pointed out he identified with blacks in his younger days when he worked with them in the cotton fields because he was considered poor "white trash". He said he never saw a black person mistreated and everyone he knew seemed to be happy. He called them "godly". Wow! How racist is that?!? Now "happy" and "godly" have become major insults.

The NAACP whiners haven't received nearly as much coverage as the gay whiners. My, how things have changed. We can remember a time when the gays would have been given short shrift while the media pounded the alleged racial angle. The NAACP has known for a while they are no longer the preferred recipient of the media propaganda welfare program. This would explain their rush to endorse gay marriage in 2012 as they attempted to tie their cart to the same sex marriage horse and benefit from the issue in spite of an outcry from their membership and an impressive number of black churches. Irrelevancy must suck. The organization's administration erroneously assumed most blacks would support their endorsement because The Savior, Barack Obama, had come out in favor of gay marriage two weeks before. They thought the usual trend of blindly following The One would span all subjects. Turns out the black community draws a line in the sand when it comes to the homosexual issue.

So, Robertson said he preferred the vagina over a man's anus. The funniest course of action by the gay victim-hood crowd would have been to ask how good old Phil would know. "Have you ever poked a man's ass, Phil?" would have been an hilarious retort. Robertson could have then pointed out how he "chooses" to follow the word of his God and not lay with men. Or he could have said he doesn't have to eat a tarantula to know he wouldn't like it. Either one would have driven the leftist crowd into a serious snit-fit because they are always crying about choice and their desire to have it, while trying to take that same option away from everyone with different beliefs. Well, with the exception of killing babies in the womb, that is. Lefties want everyone to be able to do that.

We have read various blog posts from folks who say they are gay, but have come out in defense of Robertson's right to say what he wants. Support for freedom of speech. That's great! Oh, wait. Let's sum up what some have said. "Phil Robertson has a right to say what he wants even though he is a white trash, trailer trash, homophobic, intolerant, Nazi redneck Klan member." And that's the NICE stuff they said. Freedom of speech is super-duper, isn't it? Thanks to that concept we can be exposed to thought from all sides of an issue. Unless the left has their way, of course. Then you will only hear or read their thoughts.

The gay crew was incensed because Robertson quoted some stuff from the Bible about homosexuals. We find it curious the gay lobby "chooses" to go after Bible-thumpers when they quote Scripture, but won't pursue folks who follow the Koran and behead gays. If you never researched that whole Muslim butt-pirate thing you might want to spend some time checking it out. Now THAT is a homophobic and highly hypocritical group. Just ask any of your military folks who spent time in that part of the world about the motto, "Boys are for sex, women are for making babies."

We could delve into the whole history of Judaism being the first monotheistic religion with a lot of influence provided by the beliefs of their Egyptian slave masters, and how Christianity and Islam spawned from that religion when folks found Judaism didn't exactly fit the way they wanted to live their lives. But we won't. This thing is really a lot bigger than religion.

You should also know it isn't only Christians who have signed up for this latest battle. Regular folks, atheists and agnostics included, are simply tired of certain segments of society trying to silence everyone with opposing views. The gay lobby, rather than just quietly going about their business and concentrating on true cases of discrimination, believe in being in your face and trying to silence speech they disagree with. When their "in your face" tactics are reciprocated by people like Phil Robertson they get all huffy and offended. People in general are simply tired of the bullshit. They have suddenly awakened to the danger circling them and are using this case as a rallying point. This backlash being experienced by A&E, Cracker Barrel and a few other organizations is not just emanating from Christians. Non-religious folks who simply know right from wrong who are tired of taking of a beating in silence have finally stepped up to express their displeasure and frustration.

Now, let's deal with another issue. Some out there are claiming Phil Robertson was baited by the reporter into making these statements. Don't believe it. He doesn't strike us as the type of guy who doesn't say anything he doesn't believe and won't be tricked into saying something he doesn't want you to know. In fact, recent stories in the press reveal he has spoken about the homosexual issue in sermon after sermon as if that is a major revelation. Puhleeze!! Rest assured A&E knew all about those. Up to this point A&E wanted everyone to know Phil found religion some years ago and is a serious believer. They knew all about him and his family.

Some believe A&E set Robertson up so they could get him off the show for violating some sort of "morality" clause in his contract. These clauses are common and are designed to prevent the stars of these shows from bringing the network into disrepute. Robertson was sent to that GQ interview with a representative of A&E who was supposed to serve as his "minder". Kind of like the "minders" issued to tourists and journalists in places like China and North Korea. A&E's minder fell down on the job and stepped out for a while. One school of thought suggests A&E had their minder disappear on purpose. Why? Very simple.

It is all about control. Remember the early days of the show when you would hear the occasional #bleep# and the mouth of the speaker would be pixelized? This leads the viewer to believe the speaker is cursing. A&E apparently thought this would make the show even better. From what we have read, there actually was no cursing and the family members, particularly Phil Robertson, were a bit peeved by it. If you have watched any A&E shows you will notice they do #bleep# a lot, but rarely do they pixelize the speaker's mouth. Why did they do so on DD? Because it would be obvious to the viewer there was no need for the #bleep#.

Robertson put his foot down on that issue. He also took a strong stand when A&E tried to tell them the praying before the meal at the end of the show was just too much and the family should tone it down. Apparently Phil Robertson is a fairly tough negotiator. Or rather, the money he and his family bring to A&E is the key factor. So, how does A&E keep their cash cow, reshape it to their image of what it should be, and get rid of the guy who keeps gumming up the works? Let him run off at the mouth and then remove him.

What A&E doesn't realize is that changing the show to fit their vision would likely kill it. We have watched it before and the common consensus is it is a great show to watch with the kids, or when the grandparents are around, because you don't have to worry about the language or a boob shot suddenly appearing on the screen. As we said, we aren't religious types, but we don't start foaming at the mouth when someone on a television show recites a mealtime prayer. Sure, it is probably scripted for the most part, but it is funny from time to time.

If you want to be upset about something to do with the show you should be upset with the obvious beard discrimination. Have you noticed that family members with short beards play a minimal role, while the long or bushy beards get all the camera time? Maybe we should start a charitable organization for folks with short beards.

Speaking of charitable organizations, we did a bit of research into GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). The following screen shot should tell you what you need to know.

The numbers above represent contributions, salaries and donations paid for the years 2011 and 2012. Look at line 12 (Total Revenue) and line 15 (Salaries). Note they continually operate at a net loss and don't appear to be handing out any money. With those kind of numbers our State Attorney General, which rates charitable organizations, would probably give GLAAD a rating of D or F. Other charity rating organizations consistently give GLAAD an overall two star (out of four) rating and one star (out of four) for their financials, yet still declare it a "top non-profit". Don't want to piss off the gays, do they? You can find out other details by reading their entire 2012 Form 990.

Just so you folks are crystal clear on the issue - Do NOT under any circumstances, ever mention God or Jesus, hide your faith, and don't quote Bible verses in public. Don't talk about homosexuals at all and definitely don't call a black person happy or godly.

In the meantime, the homosexual lobby will continue to hold their very public events and push their beliefs and value systems on the rest of you. You will not be allowed to comment on any of their public activities unless you have something supportive to say.

We have to wonder if anyone was charged as a result of this photo.

Strange. When those with opposing views take a stand they are called Nazis, homophobes and haters.
But you are gay, so it must be okay. There's a new motto - "I'm gay so it's okay. You're not a homo - don't wanna hear from you nomo."

Even governments have jumped on the bandwagon of supporting and enforcing politically correct views.

You know, we tend to think the same way about religion and homosexual issues. Whatever happened to just doing what you do in the privacy of your own home? When you start slapping others in the face with your religious beliefs or sexual preference, of course you will meet resistance. You can't force others to believe as you do,no matter how hard you thump that Bible, no matter how many times you prance naked through the streets.
