Food Lion Revisited

On 26 September we put up a post about the robbery of the Food Lion on Remount Road on 25 September. Suspect Ashley Michael Ireland was taken into custody shortly after the robbery and at last report is still behind bars at the Al Cannon Detention Center because he can't make the $150,000 in bonds set on his charges.

Let's not forget, at the time of the robbery Ireland was free on a $20,000 bond on the 2011 1st Degree Burglary charge. The fact that the victim of that burglary is yet another member of society with an extensive criminal history might explain the lack of desire to prosecute the case.

We have been receiving quite a few emails from citizens referencing this case, so we though we would do an update. One tipster advised us that on 22 September an anonymous tip was given to police informing them that Ireland was a felon in possession of a firearm. Interesting in it's own right, but difficult for police to go after absent any other probable cause.

Ireland is said to live with a woman who runs a daycare from her apartment in Filbin Creek Apartments and hides Ireland when parents arrive to drop off or pick up their kids. How many parents would like to know their daycare provider allows an armed convicted felon to hang out on the premises? The vehicle used in the robbery, a Dodge Magnum, belonged to this woman. We have been unable to determine if this "daycare" is licensed or not.

Another piece of information we received was that Ireland shopped in the Food Lion on 25 September, prior to the armed robbery and purchased hot dogs and buns. He returned later, armed with a handgun, and robbed the store.

Ireland hides the vehicle behind a neighboring business where it is noticed by a security guard, who also sees Ireland hustling toward the Food Lion. After a time the security guard notices someone running back toward the car with a large bag. When the security guard attempts to stop Ireland, the suspect points a handgun at him. Ireland is no longer wearing his mask when this happened. Ireland then dropped the bag and fled on foot when the security officer deployed his own equalizer.

Police responded and were directed to the vehicle. They traced it to the daycare operator in Filbin Creek Apartments. When police arrived at that location they met with the vehicle owner and later found Ireland, still wearing the clothing described by the victims, and two black males hanging out around the apartment. The vehicle owner lied to police, telling them she loaned the vehicle to a female friend we won't name. The female friend, to put it simply, told police the vehicle owner was full of crap. The owner continued lying to police and was snatched up for a trip to the station, along with Ireland and the other two fellows.

The vehicle owner finally told police Ireland had her car, but she was unaware he had taken it. She told police that when Ireland returned without her car he threatened to kill her if she told anyone and she was "scared". Given her earlier lies once the police were present and Ireland was in custody we tend to doubt that story. According to one tip we received she gave Ireland the car at 8:30 p.m.

Ireland, an experienced criminal, did not talk to police. Since being incarcerated, Ireland has been bragging to his fellow inmates he will get off on the armed robbery charges because his disguise was so effective none of the victims could tell what race he was. Unfortunately for Ireland there is a little bit of technology called video and on that video is an accurate representation of what he was wearing during the robbery. When he was arrested at his girlfriend's daycare apartment he was still wearing some of those items. Other items were found in the apartment.

Ireland is said to be denying any involvement with the daycare provider, telling other women he speaks to the daycare provider was just a "homegirl" who slept on the floor.

The daycare provider has allegedly been trying to change her statement to police in an effort to help Ireland. She is said to be trying to blame the crime on a fictitious black male she says is named "Michael Brown". According to one source she is encouraging friends to visit Ireland at the jail and convince him to provide police with a statement implicating the non-existent Michael Brown. She is convinced that once he does that the police will have no choice but to drop the charges and set him free. Sure sounds like she's afraid of him, doesn't it?

Both of the other male subject's rounded up were determined to have nothing to do with the armed robbery and were released. One has no criminal history to speak of in Charleston county, while the other has an extensive history of violent crime. Curiously, the violent one is the guy the daycare operator and vehicle owner tells authorities is her current boyfriend. His name is Antwan Green. Maybe we should review his criminal history.

Antwan Lamar Green

2008 Charges

PWID Marijuana 1st Offense - Pled guilty. Sentenced by Judge Roger Young under YOA to a term not to exceed five years, suspended in favor of two years of probation.

PWID Near a School - You already know.....dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2009 Charges:

Armed Robbery - Pled down to Simple Assault by the 9th Circuit Solicitor. Sentenced by Judge Linen to a $50 fine. That's quite a drop, wouldn't you say?

Possession of a Weapon During a Crime - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor with the notation, "Can't Prove Case". That could mean the office is staffed by morons or the victim got scared and wouldn't cooperate.

1st Offense Criminal Domestic Violence - No status listed.

Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon - Dismissed at the preliminary hearing with the notation, "Lack of Prosecution". That could mean either the arresting officer or solicitor's office didn't want to prosecute, or the officer missed the court date.

2010:

Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

2011 Charges:

Possession of Cocaine - Dismissed by the 9th Circuit Solicitor.

Discharging a Firearm Into a Dwelling - Pled guilty in April of 2013 before Judge Roger Young, who felt the previous stint on probation was so successful he ordered a repeat performance. Sentenced to ten years, suspended in favor of three years probation.

Attempted Murder - Reduced to Discharging a Firearm Into a Dwelling by the 9th Circuit Solicitor. Same plea, same sentence, concurrent.

Murder - Dismissed at the preliminary hearing.

Here are are the details behind that murder charge. Antwan Green killed Alex David Green (no relation) on Boeing Avenue on 21 February, 2011. He wanted to shoot the first person he saw, so he did. Feel free to call the 9th Circuit Solicitor and Judge Roger Young and extend your thanks and your heartfelt appreciation to them for being so sweet and allowing this guy to continue to roam the streets of the Lowcountry.

You know, if that daycare operator would stop associating with these violent convicted felons and having them hang around the daycare, she wouldn't have to fear for her life so much. Just a thought.
